Charmaine Poh is Deutsche Bank‘s „Artist of the Year“ 2025. In her videos, installations and performances, the Singaporean-Chinese artist explores identity, power structures and feminism in Southeast Asia. For the edition, Poh developed graphics together with the graphic designer XUE. The graphics are inspired by the aesthetics of the Nüshu syllabary, a Chinese secret script that originated at a time when women in China were denied access to education. The choice of Nüshu reflects the themes of the video installation „The Moon is Wet“, which Poh conceived for her exhibition for Deutsche Bank. The multi-layered work combines narratives of three protagonists in different periods of Singapore‘s history.
